London Probation Trust - Public Sector Case Study

The National Probation Service (NPS) is responsible for the supervision at any one time of over 200,000 offenders across the UK. Each year NPS assists magistrates and judges in their sentencing decisions through the provision of about 246,000 pre-sentence reports, and 20,000 bail information reports. NPS also makes a critical contribution to decisions concerning the early release of prisoners through the production of reports (approximately 87,000 annually) which combine risk and danger assessments with community supervision proposals.

The London Probation Trust is the largest region of NPS enforcement and one of the busiest, handling 50,000 offenders each year across London’s 32 boroughs. LPT works alongside other criminal justice agencies, including the police, prisons and courts to protect the public by supervising offenders in the community and reduce re-offending. LPT is responsible for managing a significant amount of sensitive documentation, which was traditionally stored at the local offices in paper format. Over the years, it has accumulated to millions of pages of reports.

Looking to reduce the cost of storage and manual effort involved in management of these files London Probation Trust approached Quadient to help implement a new file management strategy.
